After leaving his namesake brand in November 2024, Phillip Lim is back in business.
He is getting ready to launch a new ready-to-wear collection called PlayLoveWin in September for spring 2027 selling.
Lim has been posting stories on Instagram about the move into a new studio and starting up again — bringing his followers along for the ride — but was unavailable to comment on his return at this time. Sources said Lim will be previewing his collection the last two weeks of August.
As reported, Lim stepped away from his brand, 3.1 Phillip Lim, in November 2024 after showing a joyful spring 2025 collection that marked the brand’s 20th anniversary. He had cofounded the designer sportswear company with his friend, Wen Zhou, cofounder and chief executive officer, and served as creative director. At the time, the two executives released a statement that said in part, “As the brand moves into a new chapter, we are so proud of what we have built and the strength of genuine community around us. Our shared vision and hard work has allowed us to stay independent and achieve remarkable success in a constantly changing and challenging industry.”
Zhou stayed on as CEO and sole proprietor and in September 2025 tapped Michelle Rhee as head of design.
Lim’s designs were known for their cool, easy and chic aesthetic, which combined effortless California casualness with sophisticated New York tailoring. His last collection for 3.1 Phillip Lim was full of Lim’s design nuances and reimagined motifs like rosettes, lace and pin-striped shirting fabrics and celebrated an urban existence.
During the pandemic, Lim cofounded House of Slay, a digital comic book series to combat rising anti-Asian sentiment, alongside his close friends and fellow designers/creatives Prabal Gurung, Laura Kim, Tina Leung, and Ezra Williams.
