The Princess of Wales epitomised understated elegance on Wednesday as she stepped out alongside the Prince of Wales, King Charles, and Queen Camilla to welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, to the UK to commence their two-day state visit.

Dressed in grey, Kate, 44, chose a Tolu Coker coat dress featuring a pencil-cut skirt, contrasting 1980s-style white lapels, and double-breasted buttons. Unexpectedly, the coat dress featured a lace-up corset-style back.

It was an apt choice as it was made by the British-Nigerian fashion designer whose London Fashion Week show King Charles attended last month, though it is rare to see her in a grey dress of this nature. She also wore a hat by Jane Taylor with white detailing to match her coat dress and grey snakeskin heels by Hugo Boss.

Her pearl drop earrings were from Princess Diana a’s collection. Meanwhile, her brunette tresses were styled in loose waves to accommodate her percher hat.

Her makeup look featured cool grey eyeshadow, subtle bronzed cheeks, and a natural lip colour. The royal couple greeted the president and first lady on behalf of the king at the Fairmont Hotel Windsor.

The outing comes after she attended the 2026 Irish Guards’ St. Patrick’s Day Parade at Mons Barracks in Aldershot on Tuesday. Attending the event solo, the princess chose an apt green Alexander McQueen coat paired with black Ralph Lauren boots, a chunky black belt, and Gina Foster’s ‘Meribel Beret’.

Her plaited updo showed off her glorious Asprey London ‘Emerald and Diamond Halo Earrings’. It was a look that struck fashion stylist Leanne Jones as deeply symbolic. “The braided twist into a neat knot here is a particularly elegant touch, and I wonder if it brings a sense of subtle storytelling,” she told us.

Leanne added: “No part of Kate’s wardrobe is unplanned, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the combination of rich green tones and this braided detail were a quiet tribute to Ireland today.”
