The British menswear brand marks four decades in business with a season of celebrations honouring the people, innovation and iconic moments behind Charles Tyrwhitt since 1986, beginning with a nostalgic campaign led by founder Nick Wheeler and famous friends.
Charles Tyrwhitt is marking its 40th anniversary with a season of unforgettable moments, celebrating its evolution from a mail-order shirt business founded by Nick Wheeler OBE, in his student accommodation to one of Britain’s leading menswear brands. Customers can expect exclusive events, exciting new campaigns, limited edition shopping bags, VIP store experiences, competitions, exclusive anniversary offers and content with even more surprises to be revealed throughout the season.

Founded in 1986 with Nick Wheeler’s ambition to make a proper shirt that didn’t cost the earth, Charles Tyrwhitt has grown into a global menswear retailer with more than 100 stores across cities including London, Paris, New York, Chicago, Dubai and Mumbai. Today, the brand sells one shirt every four seconds, while remaining committed to its founding mission of making it easy for men to dress well.
At the heart of the anniversary is a humorous, star-studded film led by founder Nick Wheeler, who reflects on the highs, lows and unexpected moments that have defined the Charles Tyrwhitt story. Blending personal anecdotes, British humour and nostalgic references, the film celebrates not only the brand’s history, but also the long-standing friends of the brand and loyal customers who have helped shape Charles Tyrwhitt over the past four decades. To mark the milestone, Charles Tyrwhitt brought together long-standing friends of the brand from the worlds of sport, entertainment, broadcasting and business, including Chrissie Rucker OBE, Bryan Adams, Richard E. Grant, Alexander Armstrong, Lord Sugar, Stuart Broad CBE, Joe Root MBE, Matt Dawson MBE, Luke Donald MBE, Peter Jones CBE and members of the England Rugby team. Together, they bring Nick’s memories to life, retracing the brand’s rise from a single shirt to a global menswear business with its iconic home on Jermyn Street at the heart of the story.
Founder Nick Wheeler said: “If you’d told baby Nick in 1986 that his shirt business would still be going strong 40 years later, he would have been properly chuffed. I simply wanted to make a proper shirt that didn’t cost the earth, and here we are four decades later celebrating with the people who have been part of that journey. We wouldn’t have lasted even one day without our customers, so this milestone belongs to them as much as it does to us.”
The 40th anniversary celebrations will continue throughout the season, with exclusive customer events, competitions, limited edition products, dedicated window installations, exciting new content, special offers and surprises still to come. The programme will culminate with a VIP opening celebration for Charles Tyrwhitt’s new Oxford Street store on 16th October, marking an exciting new chapter for the brand in one of the world’s most iconic retail destinations.
