The barefoot footwear pioneer joins forces with Japanese outdoor brand Moonlight Gear to explore a different way of moving from the streets to the snow.
VIVOBAREFOOT × MOONLIGHT GEAR: FROM ASPHALT TO POWDER
The barefoot footwear pioneer joins forces with Japanese outdoor collective Moonlight Gear to explore the connection between street skating and snowsurfing – where craft, balance and feeling the terrain come first.
Vivobarefoot and Japanese outdoor collective Moonlight Gear come together this autumn for a collaboration celebrating freedom of movement across two very different landscapes: the streets and the snow.
Rooted in the Japanese team’s deep connection to craft, terrain and movement, the campaign explores how the same principles of sensory awareness, balance and intentional design flow between street skating and snowsurfing.
In the mountains, the Moonlight Gear team hand-build their own snowsurfing boards before heading out in search of untouched powder wearing the Tracker Pioneer WP. Back in the city, that same creative instinct is translated to asphalt, where they shape their own skateboards and skate in the Gobi Sneaker Skate MLG. Different boards. Different terrain. The same pursuit of connection. Seen through the lens of the barefoot condition, the campaign explores how freedom of movement isn’t tied to a particular surface or season, but to how closely you stay connected with what is underneath you.

Moonlight Gear has built a following around a distinctly Japanese interpretation of the outdoors: lightweight, considered, experimental and deeply connected to place. Rather than seeing equipment simply as something to consume, its community embraces making, modifying and understanding the tools they use. That philosophy runs throughout the collaboration. For the campaign, members of the Moonlight Gear community hand-build the boards that carry them through both landscapes: snowsurf boards for untouched mountain powder and skateboards for the streets. The process of making becomes as important as the movement itself. It is an approach that naturally connects with Vivobarefoot’s philosophy: footwear should interfere as little as possible with the body’s natural ability to move, balance and respond. Whether reading the contours of a mountain beneath fresh snow or feeling a skateboard beneath your feet, sensory feedback matters.
The campaign brings those worlds together, demonstrating how craft, balance and connection can create continuity between snow and asphalt.
CRAFT. TERRAIN. MOVEMENT.
At the heart of the Vivobarefoot × Moonlight Gear collaboration is a different idea of performance. One that isn’t necessarily defined by more cushioning, more structure or more technology. Instead, the campaign looks at what happens when equipment is intentionally stripped back and designed around the body’s natural ability to feel, balance and respond. The boards are shaped by hand. The terrain is allowed to dictate the movement. And the footwear is designed to let the feet do more of what they were made to do. From a skateboard beneath your feet on asphalt to a hand-built snowsurf board floating through untouched powder, the relationship remains the same. Feel more. Move naturally. Stay connected.
