When it comes to menswear, Chinese brands continue to gain a foothold on Amazon, especially when it comes to activewear.
“Chinese sellers are significantly outperforming U.S. brands in categories like sweatsuits and workout sets,” said Vanessa Kuykendall, chief engagement officer of Market Defense, a Seattle-based firm that tracks purchases on Amazon. “What we’re seeing is a customer who still wants performance and durability, but is increasingly prioritizing value and convenience, and the international brands are meeting that moment.”
Overall, she said, about 7,200 men’s fashion brands are sold on Amazon. Apparel is the most popular, with roughly $338 million in monthly sales, followed by shoes at about $215 million a month. Within apparel, men’s activewear is the most popular subcategory, generating around $95 million monthly.
Even so, the figures for the past 12 months show that in the period ending April 17, suit pants posted the most growth, with estimated monthly revenue of $461,000, an increase of 168 percent over the prior year, with an average selling price of $64.83. The top-selling brand was Snowten, which offers primarily golf pants, followed by Haggar, Coofandy, Calvin Klein and Tallemon.
The second most popular category was workout sets with average monthly sales of $250,000. Here, Coofandy reigned with Uoua, Jmierr, Tezo and Buyjya rounding out the top five.
Also popular were pleated shorts, which rang up monthly sales of $71,000 and an average selling price of $27.94. Haggar was the top seller in this category, followed by Tbmpoy, Plepan and Coofandy. In men’s compression tank tops, which accounted for $414,000 in monthly sales, Jesido, Eleady and Dalavch were the top three, while in sweatsuits, which had estimated monthly sales of $312,000, Uoua, Jmierr, Riskrole, Gxamoy and Coofandy were most popular.
