It’s been almost a week since the stunning Princess of Wales greeted Dame Sarah Mullally, the first-ever female leader of the Church of England, at Canterbury Cathedral.
The mother of three turned heads in her resplendent outfit, consisting of a glorious grey checked dress coat by Suzannah London. Keeping things sentimental, she chose to wear a pair of floral pearl earrings by Cassandra Goad, which she wore for the christening of her youngest son, Prince Louis, in 2018.
We also loved her choice of high heels. The 44-year-old donned a pair of high-heeled stilettos by Ralph Lauren. Known as the ‘Celia’ style, they are made from black calfskin and boast a three-inch heel.

The accessory that arguably stole the show was her striking Juliette Botterill hat; one of the largest we have seen Kate wear. Priced at £695, it was adorned with a single ostrich quill – the perfect blend of classic style and modern flair.

The style is actually touted as a ‘boater’ hat; its official name on the brand’s website is the ‘Houndstooth Straw Boater.’ Interestingly, Kate opted for this style of hat, as after all, the boater is often seen as a summery, more casual choice, embraced at garden parties or perhaps a regatta.

The royal ladies will often wear a hat to church. It nods to social etiquette but is also a mark of respect. Centuries ago, it was seen as disrespectful for a woman to enter a church with her hair uncovered. It’s also worth noting that hats enable the royal family to be seen when crowds of people congregate.
The royal’s hat nearly came off in the wind
Speaking of the hat in question, Kate’s headgear gave her a bit of trouble as she and her husband, Prince William, battled the wind upon arrival outside the cathedral. The royal effortlessly held her hat in place as she arrived, and it stayed perfectly positioned on her head, not moving an inch, despite the wind. What a professional.
