The season of a dozen designer debuts is in full swing. On day four of Paris Fashion Week, Miguel Castro Freitas staged his highly anticipated debut as creative director of Mugler. Back in March, the Portuguese designer succeeded Casey Cadwallader as the creative force behind the L’Oréal-owned fashion house. Titled “Stardust Aphrodite,” the collection offered a balance between old and new. Staged within a basement car park situated within Paris’s 11th arrondissement, plush fabrics covered the runway and seats. Guests like Gigi Goode, Pamela Anderson, and Naomi Watts came out in full support to bear witness to Miguel’s debut. Models emerged from backstage dressed in show-stopping pieces boasting severe tailoring, feathers, fringe, sculpted leather, and high high high drama.

“Cadwaller was found in his apartment wigless.” [LadyJunon]
“I love when I have zero expectations and things turn out great!” [GivenchyAddict[
“I like it, he genuinely understands Mugler, solid tailoring pieces. That turtleneck made of flamingo colored faux feathers is a S/S 1997 Gaultier reference I’m pretty sure. A very light hearted yet interesting debut!” [Kanzai]
“The best debut of the season so far! Quite impressive. Finally, full silhouettes with clothes at Mugler. Casey was good and this is the right following.” [Lola701]
“A very fresh and light take on Mugler, and I really enjoy it! I still think it’s odd to try and envision Mugler in this day and age, as it still feels like a brand that is so of its time to see for now is bit of a paradox. If I’m being honest, this is the kind of direction I’d like Roseberry to take Schiaparelli. This feels a little more grounded and approachable with the fantastical elements.” [Cocteau Stone]
“The collection is selling ‘glamourous vixen’, and it feels fresh. I could see Betony Vernon wearing it.
It’s a nice start for Miguel.” [IloveDiorHomme]
